The Favourite Book Challenge Blogfest

I have signed up for yet another blogfest!

This one is being hosted by Teralyn on her blog A Writer's Journey and it is the Favourite Book Challenge Blogfest to celebrate her hitting the 100 subscriber mark.

And all you have to do is pick your top five favourite books and between the 20th and 22nd of June write one line that sums up what each book is about and one line about why you like that particular book.

There is an example and more detailed 'rules' on Teralyn's blog if you follow the above link.

See you soon!

Random Quote #32

Many people hear voices when no one is there. Some of them are called mad and shut in rooms where they stare at walls all day. Others are called writers and they do pretty much the same thing.

Dear DVD Releasing People...

...I am writing to ask you a very important question.

Why oh why oh why do you keep refusing to release certain DVDs in the UK? There are some really cool series out there that I would love to be able to watch again and again but you seem to avoid releasing them here.

In one instance you have actually released the first season in the UK but then decided against a UK release for season 2. That's a bit daft isn't it?

Oh yes there are region 2 versions out there but in order to get them I would have to fork out £50 a time and the cover would be in Dutch, which is a language that I do not speak.

It looks as though I am going to be forced to buy a new DVD player and get the Region 1 versions imported. Even with the cost of a new DVD player included, importing Region 1s from USA still works out cheaper than buying the Region 2 Dutch versions.

It makes no sense to me.

Do you think that they wouldn't sell in the UK? If that is the case then I suggest that you speak to the television channels and have them stop showing these series in the UK. Especially if you have no intention whatsoever of releasing them on DVD there.

You get us enthralled and then leave us disappointed when we cannot own them on DVD (even a Blu-ray release would be an improvement).

Yours faithfully

An Irritated Consumer

Random Thought #24 - What a Waste!

I don't know how many series there have been, but something has occurred to me.

At the beginning of Supersize Vs Superskinny when they show the... patients? Contestants? Well when they show the people how much food they eat in a week they pour it all in to a big tube.

What a waste! It has honestly only just occurred to me that it is such a big waste of food. If they didn't mix it all together they could have given to... someone, I don't know who off the top of my head. But you would have to be pretty desperate to eat any of that once it is all mixed in together - cake, burger, chocolate and chicken tikka masala anyone?

No?!?!?!

What if it's washed down with spaghetti bolognese, ice cream and cola?

Nope didn't think so.

At the risk of sounding repetitive... what a waste!

Random Quote #31

Manny *Reading the rules that Bernard has written*: "No mobiles, no wigwams."

Bernard: Walkmans!

Manny: "No snoit... no snoity car." This is indecipherable!

Bernard: Look it's perfectly simple. "No mobiles, no Walkmans..."*pauses, unsure*

Bernard: None of that! Or any of the others!

Passing on the Stylish Blogger Award

Sometime in April, whilst we were all busy A to Zing, Sylvia and her blog Word Doodles was kind enough to present me with the Stylish Blogger Award.

And so now I have finally got around to passing the award on.

Now as far as I have been able to ascertain the rules are that I have to tell you 6 (or 7) things about me that you don't already know. And then pass the award on to a handful of blogs.

So then 6 (or 7) things you don't know about me... hmm, what to tell you? Well here goes...

1.Some of you may already be aware that I have Type 1 Diabetes, and that I've had it for just over 11 years. But what you probably don't know is that I was 14 years old when I was diagnosed - I know it's gripping stuff isn't it?

2.I have a BA degree in History of Art and Design.

3.When I was little (about 4 or 5 years old I think) I wanted to be an author. Then I went through various phases of wanting to be all sorts from an archaeologist to a fashion designer. And now I have come round full circle and want to be an author again.

4.I was a HUGE fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (or as they were known in the UK Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles). I still am really...

5.The Incredible Hulk used to scare me... to the point that I haven't seen either of the films that were recently made.

6.I am ridiculously quiet and shy in 'real' life.

7.I like to take the dust jacket off hardback books and 'ooh' and 'aah' over the book itself... I've even done that whilst still stood in the shop!

Now here comes the tough part. Trying to decide who to pass the award on to...

It was tough... I would have liked to have given this award to everyone... but it would have taken me quite some time to list and then visit everyone to let them know. So singling individuals out has been difficult.

So I pass the Stylish Blogger Award on to (whether they already have it or not!):

    Holly at Holly Ruggiero's POV
    Lindz at Rapturous Randomocity
    Tizzy at Impossible Dreams
Ttofee at Ttofee For Your Thoughts

and I think I'll pick one more but who shall it be... who shall it be?

    Erm...

And Lola at Sharp Pen/Dull Sword

Will all award winners please approach the stage (blog) so that they can collect their award. :-)

This post has taken me about a week to write!!!

Basil Fawlty: Manuel, go and get me a hammer.

    Manuel: Que?

    Basil Fawlty: A... hammer.

    Manuel: Oh, a hammer sandwich!

Basil Fawlty: Oh must we go through this everytime? A hammer.

    Manuel: My hamster?

Basil Fawlty: No, not your hamster. How can I knock a nail in with your hamster? Well... I could try.

    Changes

You may have noticed that my background has changed - it's still purple yes.

This used to be the background on my other blog - The Life of Writing - but that has just had a massive overhaul.

But I liked this background so much I decided to put it on here...

    Everybody Dance Now!

    Celebrate good times come on!

I am a very happy bunny right now. You may remember... or you may not... me posting a while a go now about a book from my childhood that I couldn't find.

It really stressed me out at the time. Then I forgot about it.

Then earlier today something reminded me of it so I decided to try one last time. I threw everything I could think of at Google.

And with the words 'children's adventure story "needle shaped mountain"' I was finally successful. So if you read my original post on this I can now tell you I am pretty sure that I was wrong about the robot... and the snow globe. But the mountain is definitely there.

The book that I have been searching for on my quest is:

Rebecca's World: Journey to the Forbidden Planet by Terry Nation.

And as soon as I saw the cover to the hardback edition I recognised it immediately!

Once you know what you are looking for it's amazing the information that you can find!

A to Z Challenge Reflections Mega Post

First of all well done to everyone who took part whether you managed to post for every letter or not.

So here we are - May 2011 - the A to Z Blogging Challenge is over!

Or is it? Now you can take part in the A to Z Challenge Reflections Mega Post.

Share your experiences. What have you learnt over that past month?

    What have I learnt?

Well for one thing I learned that there are some really nice bloggers out there. Really friendly and showing that they are willing to put up with my randomness by following me.

I also learnt that if you give me a list with over 1000 blog links on it I will not go through it in a methodical and organised manner. I will just haphazardly jump from randomly picked link to randomly picked link.

So there is every chance that I missed a few - I'm sorry to anyone that that included. I am organised in many ways but it would seem that going through a link list isn't one of them. But I did find some great blogs whilst I was on my travels.

I have realised that most of this post concerns me stating that everyone is really nice... cheesy I know.

So for some more nice people:

Sylvia at Word Doodles who awarded me the 'Stylish Blogger' Award. (I haven't decided who to pass it on to yet - but I will... eventually)

Deidra at A Storybook World who awarded me with the 'Creative Blog' Award.

And my latest award from Elizabeth at Author Elizabeth Mueller who awarded me with the 'I Survived the 2011 A-Z Blogging Challenge' Award.

So a huge THANK YOU to Elizabeth for this latest award. And a repeated big thank you to Sylvia and Deidra for the other two awards.

And thank you to everyone who visited my blog, commented, became a follower etc.

And lastly I learnt that I know the alphabet! ;-)

    Random Thought #23 - A to Z

Why is it that now that the A to Z Blogging Challenge has ended I seem to have loads of ideas for what I COULD have posted about?
